Overview The San Angelo Metropolitan Area, if society can even consider the area metropolitan, is anchored by a principal city to the northwest of Central Texas, to the southwest of the Osage Plains, to the northeast of the Chihuahuan Desert, and to the southeast of the Permian Basin. Included counties are Tom Green and Irion, with Irion along Route 67 and Tom Green home to the City of San Angelo along Routes 67, 87, and 277.
