Garantie vs. Realität: Unser #Ioniq5 ist zum 2. Mal in 3 Wochen tot. 🔌💀
Trotz neuem ICCU-Modul: 12V-Batterie leer. Das Service-Chaos der Mobilitätsgarantie ist bei 1°C Außentemperatur kein Spaß. ❄️

Things I Wish I’d Known Before Buying an EV

Rising oil prices have more people thinking about going electric, but it’s worth considering potential challenges with repairs, charging and other factors

Saw a white #Hyundai #Ioniq5 #XRT out in the wild for the first time. Nice looking car.

I've had an electric car for a month now and I had some really basic questions that I couldn't find clear answers.

1) You don't need a charger for a public station: the cord plugs into the car
2) There are different speeds of charge. Be sure the adapter at the charging station has pins in the optional bottom part.
3) There are different speeds even on chargers with the extra pins
4) The amount the stations charge is not posted and seems really different at different places.
5) I thought the charging cord that came with the car was just the 110 cord but it had an adapter I didn't notice - I almost bought another one
6) To charge at home, you can charge slowly with any 15 amp circuit that doesn't have anything else running. You need to buy an extension cord that is 12 gauge wire.
7) The heat uses a lot of power, but the seat warmers don't, so you'll get a better range with the heat off.
8) The car's navigation system has "closest charger" option, but that takes you to private chargers, too, so it is useless.

The car is awesome!

#ev #ioniq5 #car

@stylus I drive an #ioniq5 since end 2021. A very good and pleasant car with a bad software. Seems that the software on new cars is much better.

Handy hint for anyone using a Dremel cutter to shorten bolts for a job like, say, re-attaching an undertray to a #Hyundai #Ioniq5: don't forget to round off the edge that you've cut so that, when it pops through the end of the nut you're holding in place, it doesn't act like a rotating razor blade.

Ask me how I know. Actually, don't.

I love my #Hyundai #Ioniq5 but not the hyperactive parking sensors, which go from bong-bong-bong to solid beep when you're still a foot away from something. Add a gargantuan turning circle, and a lot of the time you just end up ignoring them.

Anyway, there was this wheely bin... a below walking pace nudge as I was inching forwards. The bin didn't even move. Which is why the chrome and black strips that run the full width of the front of the car now have a crack down them.

Afterwards, driving in rain and darkness, I thought the car sounded like it was throwing up more water than usual. Finally yesterday we had a day with no rain and I could lie on the ground.

The entire front edge of the undertray was hanging down, secured by one plastic stud. Easy enough fix with a few nuts, bolts and penny washers, and well done Hyundai for cutting access holes to make that easier. But a part that's inevitably going to get nudged, held on by bits that drop off when breathed upon? Not so good.

Yeah. The forced subscription walled garden ecosystem is a major reason why we skipped the #Chevy #EquinoxEV. As a #Michigan family tired of getting flack for owning a #Toyota #Prius, we had been excited for it for over a year.

But after delays and (loss/lack of) features announced we went with the #Hyundai #Ioniq5.

Got more crap for buying another foreign #car, but then found the stickers show the "foreign" Ioniq 5 has substantially higher percentage of #USA parts than the "domestic" Chevy.
