Nous le savons instinctivement : la température est généralement plus fraîche au cœur d’une forêt. Mais peut-on mesurer ce microclimat de manière plus précise ? Ce reportage diffusé avec LeMonde.fr suit les scientifiques du projet Imprint, qui ont équipé notamment trois forêts françaises de centaines de capteurs de température. Au fil de leur étude, elles révèlent peu à peu leur fonction de climatiseurs naturels.

How EU Space helps protect – even restore – Europe’s forests
Forests are a resource that keeps on giving. Not only do they provide shade on a hot sunny day, they’re home to a wide range of flora and fauna. Trees are also a crucial raw material for a number of the products that we use every day, such as the packages made by the pulp and paper industry. And who of us hasn’t enjoyed a walk in the woods? Today, trees play another role, that of climate ally. Acting as a carbon sink, they can remove vast amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere, up to 328 million tonnes per year according to some estimates.
