How are we in a world where these two statements are widely seen as simultaneously true: (1) You always know when you see a trans woman so Sex Matters toilet terrorists are just fine, and (2) trans women are so sneaky the IOC has to catch them out with genetic testing?

There has only ever been one trans woman athlete at the Olympics, and she finished last. It wasn't a trans sneak attack, the athlete made no secret of her history. There is no evidence at all of trans women "stealing" sport from cis women. In fact, trans women are underrepresented on the winner's podium.

This ban is transphobic but the direct victims of the ruling are intersex and cis women who are now required to "prove" they are women. The violence is that people who have lived their whole lives as women will be told they aren't really valid. That they are a threat to their sisters.

Fuck the IOC.

A) What about trans-men seeking to compete in men's events?

B) Why doesn't this recognize the existence of people who are biologically intersex? How would this policy be applied to people with XXY chromosomes or complete androgen insensitivity? Obviously, it would be difficult for such people to become top-level athletes, but it's not necessarily impossible.

Transgender women athletes banned from Olympics by new IOC policy on female eligibility

Transgender women athletes are now excluded from the Olympics after the IOC agreed to a new eligibility policy on Thursday which aligns with U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order on women’s sports ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

"Transgender women athletes banned from Olympics by IOC"

The headline is wrong. Trans women were not banned. Women with an SRY gene were banned. Some of those are trans women, but others are intersex. Many have no idea they have an SRY gene and will have their lives upended to please Trump.

I read the IOC's justification for this ban, and it is appalling. Basically: "Cis men have a significant advantage over cis women, so we are banning trans women and any intersex person in the blast radius." They seem to intentionally ignore the substantial research on actual trans women athletes, which do not show an advantage.

Also: this is all upside down. Trans women are women - women's sport should accommodate all women, including intersex women and trans women. I am left handed, and this would give me a very significant advantage in sports like boxing. There are so many ways in which women's bodies are diverse, why do they keep picking on this particular one - flying in the face of all evidence?

I've said this before: When an intersex child is born and the female sex is chosen for them, the doctors and parents lie to the child, keep secrets from them, do surgeries on them to make them conform, put them on hormones to make them fit in, teach them shame for all the ways they fail to conform - but if they win a race, THEY ARE NOT A WOMAN!!!!!!!

IOC establishes genetic testing as a requirement in a policy driven by politics not scientific evidence

Today, on March 26th the IOC established genetic testing as a requirement for competing in the female category in a policy driven by politics not scientific evidence.  The new policy, entitled “Protection of the Female (Women’s) Category in Olympic Sport” endorses mandatory genetic screening for women athletes. The IOC praises its new policy to be based on the latest scientific evidence, however the policy lacks methodological transparency.  Furthermore, testing for the SRY gene to […]

@samlitzinger Seems to screw intersex athletes with CAIS too. You can have an SRY gene but be completely insensitive to androgens.

Also this test has been done before and abandoned because it was grossly unfair.
