Briar Messenger does something similar it has three modes Internet (Tor) WiFi and Bluetooth, WiFi and Bluetooth can apparently be used to create mesh networks in crowds even when the internet is out

Meshtastic also does something similar but requires a custom lora radio node to be in range and basically only has the bandwidth for texting

of course both FLOSS and E2EE

Закопайте уже #WhatsApp, более пяти лет достоверно известно как много оно собирает данных о пользователях. Являясь «длинной рукой» для #Facebook, позволяя дотянуться до происходящего на тех устройствах, на которых пользователи не желают ставить какой-либо его софт.

Под капотом у WhatsApp обычный xmpp и уйти на свой собственный xmpp это вполне разумно. На первых порах, можно выбрать какой-то уже поднятый сервер.

Судя по графике довольно много xmpp-серверов, которые скрывают данные о себе. В тоже время сеть довольно приличная по размерам.
Хотя, если же смотреть относительно jabber.ru, то и не особо много узлов. Может компетентные люди расскажут почему так.

Сквозное шифрование #e2ee
Предоставляется в xmpp через #OMEMO, ровно такое же как в WhatsApp, по такому же протоколу\схеме.
Вот тут список xmpp-клиентов c поддержкой такового.

Давно уже никаких OpenPGP, GnuPGP и т.п. GPG не требуется для шифрования сообщений в xmpp-клиентах. Шифрование через OMEMO гораздо удобнее, безопаснее и современнее (пришло на замену #OTR, столь любимому шифропанками).

We need to convince other people to use XMPP.

The no encryption is no longer an issue, most clients implement OMEMO.

There's no reason to leave your love ones and acquaintances under the influence of Mark Zuckerberg or any other centralised instant-messaging platform that lives on rage, POLARISATION and division.

Not in 2025. The platform is now mature. Servers are easy to run, encryption works, there are multiple clients for every platform.

Once you teach them how to use them, block them on Whatsapp so they have to reach you through XMPP.
