Background According to Regulation (EC) No 1332/2008, all food enzymes already on the EU market as well as new food enzymes are subject to a safety evaluation by EFSA. The outcome of this evaluation supports the European Commission in establishing the first Community list for food enzymes. Dietary exposure is an integral part of the safety evaluation. Since 2017 EFSA has been collecting data to develop a Food Enzyme Intake Model (FEIM). Background EFSA is committed to delivering trustworthy scientific advice and communication of risks from farm to fork. To help achieve this objective, the EFSA Strategy 2027 outlines the need for fit-for-purpose protocols for EFSA’s generic scientific advice.
