I can divide my life to date by the most popular/useful way to do info search and double-checking:

* encyclopedia lookup by hand & library card catalogs

* find & grep

* Google & Wikipedia

* ask AI

The first has died out, effectively.

I doubt the second ever will.

Something like the third will likely always exist too, even if the company/site names shift.

For the fourth to be a net win and not a frustrating PITA it needs to be taught common sense and get rigorous about fact-checking and truth-telling.
