Winter heating is tough on tropical plants like calathea 🌿 The dry indoor air during heating season can cause those crispy brown leaf edges you see in the photo. Calatheas (Calathea spp.) naturally come from humid tropical forests, so they really feel it when our homes drop to 30-40% humidity in winter.
Some solutions that help: grouping plants together creates a microclimate with higher humidity, placing a water tray near (not under) the plant adds moisture to the air, and misting occasionally can provide temporary relief. Moving the plant away from radiators and heating vents also makes a big difference.
It's a reminder that even indoor plants have seasonal challenges! 💚

Calatheas (Calathea spp.) komen van nature uit vochtige tropische bossen, dus ze voelen het echt wanneer de luchtvochtigheid in onze huizen daalt naar 30-40% in de winter.
Enkele oplossingen die helpen: planten groeperen creëert een microklimaat met hogere luchtvochtigheid, een bakje water in de buurt (niet eronder) van de plant voegt vocht toe aan de lucht, en af en toe sprayen geeft tijdelijke verlichting. De plant weghouden van radiatoren en verwarmingsroosters maakt ook een groot verschil.

My Monstera deliciosa has just finished rolling out a fresh new leaf, and it's beautiful to see how perfectly formed it is with its characteristic fenestrations already visible. The bright, vibrant green of new growth always brings such joy to the indoor jungle.

Mijn Monstera deliciosa heeft net een vers nieuw blad uitgerold, en het is prachtig om te zien hoe perfect gevormd het is met de karakteristieke gaten al zichtbaar. Het heldere, levendige groen van nieuwe groei brengt altijd zo veel vreugde in de indoor jungle.
Deze iconische spleten en gaten zijn niet alleen decoratief – in hun natuurlijke habitat helpen ze de grote bladeren om sterke wind te weerstaan en laten ze licht door naar de lagere bladeren.

New arrival!
Probably the most common clone of Nepenthes sanguinea in cultivation right now is the “orange” one, a sturdy and very easy grower however not very reflective of the species name. This one however (BE-4066), is; “sanguinea” more or less translates to “blood colored” in reference to how some of the most common and standout plants in the wild are deep, rich red to purplish. In some cases very dark colors are due to introgression particularly with ramispina, though those plants tend to show other traits from that species too (narrower angular pitchers with more pronounced hips, mottling in the background and bright green peristomes, etc.), but these more saturated reds and purples are pure sanguinea. This is a very small plant right now though the pitcher ratio it’s arrived with is impressive, but eventually it could get to making foot-tall traps.
