Spotify is "pay to play". I pay money to get my music on there, for the prestige, presumably. I will never make back even the 20 bucks it cost to publish, nevermind the hundreds it cost to make the music (nevermind the years of learning music and how to make it, but I digress...)

But actually there's no prestige. Don't be impressed because someone has music on Spotify. Here is a literally endless list of companies that will put any WAV file you have on your computer, on Spotify, for 20 bucks:
