I've avoided TikTok so far and completely left Xitter, but that doesn't go far enough. Meta is terrible, nearly as bad as these others, so I'd love to abandon Facebook, Instagram, and Threads as well. How do I do this as an indie author scrambling for readers?

This is not a rhetorical question; I really want to know. How do you balance "maintaining an online prescence" with not supporting fascism? Both of those seem like hard requirements for indie authors, and they are in clear conflict.

Sorry about the confusion on #IndieAuthorChat today. Its a weekly chat I run for #writers and #authors at 7pm EST Tuesdays โ€”on Bsky (https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:bk37xx5fs2pgrzfybk3n5an2/feed/aaao25r6svpqm).

Though today I accidentally scheduled the prompt q's on here too ๐Ÿ™ƒ. (Trust me, one social media is enough to be hosting a live chat on, two is too much ๐Ÿ˜‰).

But if you're also on Bsky, the chat returns March 12th and I'd love to see you there!

#IndieAuthorChat 3 (screenshot because attached image was incorrect):

I tend to dread writing certain things (like connector scenes or scenes where something uncomfortable happens to the characters ๐Ÿ˜…) more than editing. Other than I might hate rereading those scenes, lol

Good resources have been Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips, and Writing Stack Exchange to check on things I'm unsure about

#IndieAuthorChat: Editing Q3

Is there a dull or dreaded thing you always edit last?
And have any resources helped you edit? Please share!

#IndieAuthorChat 2:

Since I edit while I go, what I focus on depends on what stage of the writing I'm at. As I'm writing I may tend to hit road blocks if something seems majorly wrong, like something is dragging, plot isn't connecting from Point A to Point B, characters aren't in character, etc. Those may mean chapters need to be rewritten or moved around. (This happened a LOT with One World in the first third). Then the focus shifts to awkward sentences, adding detail, etc

#IndieAuthorChat: Editing Q2

Do you focus on specific things at different stages of editing?
If so, what do you find effective to edit separately
& why?

#IndieAuthorChat 1:

โ€ข I edit while I write rather than drafting/revising. This can be slow going but the result is that my manuscripts are very clean, which my editors have appreciated

โ€ข This is hard to quantify since I revise while I go ๐Ÿค” I usually wind up going back through and adding more than I delete, so I guess under?

โ€ข I tend to outline in layers and by the time I'm far enough in to know where I'm going I'm outlining pretty thoroughly

I think I'm just in time to catch #IndieAuthorChat live!
