The messenger bag I’ve been carrying to protests only fit an 8 oz water bottle, but as we move into summer, I’m going to need at least 12 oz to stay hydrated. Which means new quilted purse time!

It’s a bit hard to see, but the main fabric is vote-themed as well, some fabric left over from my #InarticulateGOTV quilt. It’s got pockets for extra masks and can hold my digital camera too

Just in time for election day, my #InarticulateGOTV quilt top is finished! The second photo is a guide to all the local #SanDiego languages I was able to include -- 22 in all!

It will probably not get quilted until January as I have some holiday projects up next, but I hope to have it available for local get-out-the-vote efforts early next year

Once I laid out the blocks for #InarticulateGOTV, there were two spaces needing filled, one small one I’m adding Samoan to and one square one that I decided needed something fun - a big ol’ checkmark!

That’s not appliqué. I _pieced_ it. It was a fuck ton of fussy cutting and sewing, but look how those borders line up even tho the checkmark breaks thru them! I feel like I could piece anything!

Got tired of climbing up and down the step ladder to rearrange blocks, but was able to puzzle out a layout for my #InarticulateGOTV quilt on paper last night

Needs 2 more blocks, one planned (Xhosa) and one unplanned (Samoan? looks like it’ll fit)

I’m bummed Pashto or Lao won’t make it into the final design, but they’re both just too difficult to piece

A quick dry fit on #InarticulateGOTV this morning — at least 2 blocks to go but looks so far like I’ll have enough of the pre-purchased backing fabric

Oof, sorry for overexposure. The early morning lighting in here is terrible

The phrase من رای دادم had so many angles that I resorted to a semi-paper piecing method to make the Persian block for #InarticulateGOTV — there’s a LOT seams but I think it looks really beautiful from the front

I had 2 final borders to attach yesterday when the repair shop called to say our car was finished, so they didn’t get sewn on until this morning

But the Hindi quilt block for #InarticulateGOTV is done —

The teeny tiny diacritical marks were extremely hard to piece* but the Vietnamese block for #InarticulateGOTV is finished

*They are _really_ necessary tho! Without the marks Google translated this phrase into English as both “I’m wild” and “I paid the ticket”. How do human beings _ever_ communicate?!?

Came across a newly published profile of quilt artist Michael A. Cummings —https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/10/30/quilts-that-keep-you-up-at-night

I didn’t think I knew his work, but a quick Google search brought up his Shirley Chisholm quilt that I remember seeing while researching #InarticulateGOTV

Quilts That Keep You Up at Night

Michael A. Cummings, who learned how to sew by accident, and whose work sometimes moves people to tears, goes searching for some new fabric, Nina Mesfin writes.

And this is why seam rippers — take #2 for the #InarticulateGOTV German block

Many thanks to @1Atalante1 for letting me know the Google translation wasn’t as accurate as it could be
