Introducing スモークブルーの雨のち晴れ (subtitled in English by the publisher as Life in Smokey Blue) by Kamome Hamada, which combines everything I love about manga, BL, and translation all into one beautifully written series (that's still ongoing!).

It's also just so refreshing to have older protagonists fumbling around trying to figure life out and fufill their dreams -- even having new dreams! I can only hope I am also such an adult when I reach 40.

Read another great Japanese book from my shelf. It feels good to be reading some stuff from my shelf that I've been meaning to get to for awhile, and it's even better that I'm enjoying them too!

Also available in English as People Who Talk to Stuffed Animals are Nice (tr. Emily Balistrieri), it contains the title story and three shorter stories about gender and how we connect with other people. Really fascinating. Definitely want to read more from the author.

Been prioritizing reading in Japanese more lately, which means I've been getting to books that have been collecting dust on my shelves for awhile.

This book by Hiroka Yamashita dealt with issues of gender identity/expression and navigating the world in a really thought-provoking way. Definitely glad I finally got to this book, and during Pride Month no less.

In the vein of posting something somewhat more pleasant, I finished my first Kotaro Isaka book last night and it was really good. Definitely a lot of fun to read about a god of death who's job is like that of a Japanese salaryman. Yet it was rather introspective too, which I also really enjoyed. The follow-up is a novel instead of interconnected short stories, but I think that'll be my next book to read in Japanese.

Posted this elsewhere already, but I got some new books over the weekend. I've never read Miyuki Miyabe in Japanese before, so that book should be fun if I ever get to it. It and the Noriko Ogihara book were both good finds since they were both originally published before I was even born lol

Then Manabu Kaminaga is just good fun. I love Yakumu (different series), so I'd really like to see something of his get the English treatment.
