"The Supreme Court on Saturday blocked, for now, the deportations of any Venezuelans held in northern Texas under an 18th-century wartime law.

"In a brief order, the court directed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in the #BluebonnetDetentionCenter 'until further order of this court.'

"Justices #ClarenceThomas and #SamuelAlito dissented.

"The high court acted in an emergency appeal from the American Civil Liberties Union contending that immigration authorities appeared to be moving to restart removals under the #AlienEnemiesAct of 1798. The Supreme Court had said earlier in April that deportations could proceed only if those about to be removed had a chance to argue their case in court and were given 'a reasonable time' to contest their pending removals.

" 'We are deeply relieved that the Court has temporarily blocked the removals. These individuals were in imminent danger of spending the rest of their lives in a brutal Salvadoran prison without ever having had any due process,' ACLU lawyer Lee Gelernt said in an email."

#SupremeCourt blocks order requiring #Trump administration to reinstate workers

WASHINGTON (AP) — "The Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked an order for the Trump administration to return to work thousands of federal employees who were let go in mass firings aimed at dramatically downsizing the federal government.

"The justices acted in the administration’s emergency appeal of a ruling by a federal judge in California ordering that 16,000 probationary employees be reinstated while a lawsuit plays out because their firings didn’t follow federal law.

"The effect of the high court’s order will keep employees in six federal agencies on paid administrative leave for now. Justices #SoniaSotomayor and #KetanjiBrownJackson said they would have kept the judge’s order in place.

"It’s the third time in less than a week that the justices have sided with the administration in its fight against federal judges whose orders have slowed President Donald Trump’s agenda. The court also paused an order restoring grants for teacher training and lifted an order that froze deportations under an 18th century wartime law."

"A petition created by #FaithfulAmerica is nearing its goal of signatures on Sunday as they demand Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to resign amid his recent controversies.

"In its petition from Wednesday, with a goal of 15,000 signatures, Faithful America, an organization of #Christians supporting #SocialJustice causes while opposing '#ChristianNationalism,' is demanding the conservative justice resign after he was heard in a secret recording agreeing that the United States should return 'to a place of godliness' as well as for two flags that were previously flown outside the justice's home."
