Tornado.exe by Alice Chemama was one of the non-mainstream artworks seen at the ticketed courtyard of IAE Lille. In a ghost-in-a-machine tradition, a bug destroys a game, and possibly a life as well, in a most trippy and ironic tone. The artwork is also an example of illustrators gone mappers, which I think is a splendid thing!

Another nice surprise in the Video Mapping Festival of Lille: Moulting by Capsule Collectif. Intestines-dwelling-in-mud -like formations are not the most usual imagery of mappings, so I could call this a fresh take. There were accidental moments of beauty in colours of dragonfly wings, but even they were somewhat mechanical and cruel. Loved it. A special shoutout for the music by Géraldine Kwik, defs not the regular boom-ba-boom, but an insightful approach to nature sounds going totally uncanny. Weird and wonderful!

Even if I'm not too much into traditional power-mapping, the last seconds of mammasONica's Le doute de l’air made an impression on me. There certainly was a wow, but also something majestically sinister in the veil sucked into the abyss of the window. Yes, I'm into details like that.

Raphaëlle Martinez's papercut animation La rubrique des pigeons was a nostalgic perk in the very digital-looking Video Mapping festival of Lille. Even the info text about a pigeon delivering a message was missing fashionable key words – but the artwork delivered its message perfectly all the same.
