Image Recognition with Neural Networks: A Beginner’s Guide

If you’re anything like me, you must be anxious to understand how computers can recognize image. Certainly, it can’t be magic—we know that for a fact—but how does it work? As a disclaimer, I’m not a neural network expert. I love to learn and share my knowledge and experience. Hence, the following example is more like a “hello world” of image recognition. I’m also not a math genius, which means that if I can understand how math works, everyone can! That said, don’t worry if […]

So the Nextcloud image recognition app is a nice idea, but whatever the model used is… I mean… I'm pretty sure neither is the first picture a person's portrait, the second not a car and the third has nothing to do with electronics.

Toy dog vs dog toy vs dog-shaped-toy. I get it, Google Lens. English is hard. #googlelens #toydog #dogtoy #dog-shaped-toy #ai #imagerecognition (screenshot is from a couple years ago, IIRC)

Oooh, does anyone have some adversarial images that could be printed onto fabric I can sew into a vest or jacket?

Apparently you can develop patterns which confuse the image recognition nets (classifiers) to think that a sticker or pattern is something else. It would be phenomenal to create an entire jacket out of those patterns. Just for fun!

Efficient allocation of image recognition and LLM tasks on multi-GPU system

This work is concerned with the evaluation of the performance of parallelization of learning and tuning processes for image classification and large language models. For machine learning model in i…

"Want to avoid what's shocking you? Use Ente." The message is clear. I'm still impressed (and shocked!) by the image recognition capabilities and the ability to create so much meta info from it.

Just look at this deer!!

Well, I'm 91.4% certain it's a deer.

Otherwise, it's a pig!

Yes, I'm 62.3% certain it's a pig.

I've been identifying camera trap images with the MegaDetector & NZ Invasives image ID models in the EcoAssist app.

While some people seem giddy with the hype around these tools, when compared with my manually screened random subset, it was correct 11.8% of the time. For IDs with a confidence score >0.9, only 14.5% were correct.
