Movie critics Mark Kermode and Jack Howard just introduced me to the Shepard Tone, "that seems to continually ascend or descend in pitch, yet which ultimately gets no higher or lower." Like the engine of the Batmobile, and that tension-ratcheting music in "Dunkirk."
