Trump Administration Says It’s Ending Surge of Immigration Agents to Minnesota
President Trump’s so-called border czar Tom Homan said Thursday federal agents will be ending “Operation Metro Surge” in Minnesota.
Tom Homan: “I have proposed, and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operation conclude. A significant drawdown has already been underway this week and will continue to the next week.”
The weekslong crackdown saw about 3,000 officers from ICE, Border Patrol and other federal agencies conduct immigration sweeps across the Twin Cities region, often while masked and riding in unmarked vehicles. More than 4,000 people were detained as agents routinely deployed tear gas and pepper spray against protesters and bystanders, including children. Federal agents shot three people in Minnesota, two of them fatally: Renee Good and Alex Pretti. On Thursday, protesters continued to gather outside the Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis, skeptical of the Trump administration’s claims. This is anti-ICE protester Richie Mead.
Richie Mead: “Actions speak louder than words, so until we see them actually leave, we don’t believe it. We’re going to be out here until they prove it, until they stop running this Gestapo SUV, running through our streets, snatching up our neighbors, murdering our neighbors. Until that ends, we don’t believe it.”

Trump Threatens to Send Another Aircraft Carrier to Strike Iran
President Trump is meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House today as the U.S. continues to threaten Iran. On Tuesday, Trump said he could send another aircraft carrier to strike Iran if negotiations over the country’s nuclear program fail. Trump told Axios, “Either we will make a deal or we will have to do something very tough like last time.” The U.S. and Iran held talks last Friday in Oman for the first time since the 12-day war back in June last year. Negotiations are set to continue, but a date and location hasn’t been confirmed yet. This is Ali Larijani, a top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Ali Larijani: “From the beginning, we believe that war does not resolve matters between the two countries, and the regional disputes between Iran and the West must be resolved through dialogue. It is a mistake on the part of others to believe that they could resolve issues through the language of force.”

ACLU Calls for U.N. Probe into Trump’s Immigration Crackdown over Human Rights Abuses
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota has removed an attorney from her post after she told a judge, “This job sucks.” The attorney, Julie Le, complained of a crushing workload due to the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown — and the government’s refusal to comply with court orders.
Her complaints came as the American Civil Liberties Union called on the United Nations to investigate the U.S. immigration crackdown, writing, “The Trump administration’s egregious crackdown in Minnesota is not only flouting the Constitution but also United States international human rights obligations that prohibit the use of racial and ethnic profiling, extra-judicial killings and unlawful use of force against protesters and observers.”
