#IdrisKhattak is a #Pakistani human rights
defender, member of the #Pashtun minority, and a former consultant with #AmnestyInternational and #HumanRightsWatch. In November 2019, he was abducted and forcibly disappeared; authorities finally acknowledged in June 2020 that he had been detained by military intelligence. In December 2021, he was convicted in a secret trial by a military court and sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment for alleging sharing classified information.

is part of the 2,122 other unresolved cases still pending against the Pakistani state. Additionally, the International Commission of Jurists ( #ICJ ) says that #EnforcedDisappearances in Pakistan are no longer restricted to conflict zones alone, but it is “a tactic for suppressing dissenting voices wherever they are present”, and #IdrisKhattak was one such voice.

On 13th November, 56 year old human rights activist, #IdrisKhattak was forcibly disappeared in #KhyberPakhtunkhwa. Khattak had tirelessly worked on enforced disappearances in #Pakistan and he was also affiliated with #AmnestyInternational and #HumanRightsWatch, documenting human rights abuses in #KPK and the tribal belt.
