#IdrisKhattak is a #Pakistani human rights
defender, member of the #Pashtun minority, and a former consultant with #AmnestyInternational and #HumanRightsWatch. In November 2019, he was abducted and forcibly disappeared; authorities finally acknowledged in June 2020 that he had been detained by military intelligence. In December 2021, he was convicted in a secret trial by a military court and sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment for alleging sharing classified information.

Additionally, the International Commission of Jurists ( #ICJ ) says that #EnforcedDisappearances in Pakistan are no longer restricted to conflict zones alone, but it is “a tactic for suppressing dissenting voices wherever they are present”, and #IdrisKhattak was one such voice.
His brother, Dr. Owais Khattak has filed a case in the #PeshawarHighCourt after the kidnapping.

On 13th November, 56 year old human rights activist, #IdrisKhattak was forcibly disappeared in #KhyberPakhtunkhwa. Khattak had tirelessly worked on enforced disappearances in #Pakistan and he was also affiliated with #AmnestyInternational and #HumanRightsWatch, documenting human rights abuses in #KPK and the tribal belt.
