Black Eden: The Idlewild Community is a good starting point for information on Idlewild, it's history in northern Michigan (though as someone who lives further north, I consider it mid-Michigan), and it's future. I bought this at the Idlewild Historic and Cultural Center when we went down last summer to visit. This book is over 20 years old now so some stuff has changed over time, but it does still provide a good bit of information.
