💞 night night or neigh morning 💞
five years ago almost to the day, I stood there, gazing some thousands up to the summit, a day later gazing down.
seven summits? perhaps eight or more.. yearly climbs, snow, rock, and ice.. the nineties were a blast; no ropes no pro, just second-hand axes & a pair of mono-points...
charlet moser you saved my life! ooh, first I had to give it, one front point step at a time, the couloirs and rock-fall frozen in time, till dawn-thaw awoken, melting and splitting, frozen choss and chock-stones came rushing down..
helmet impacts, artillery fire from the gods, two legs splayed wide, not-the-barn-door-not-now how many meters down is five hundred ooh fuuuu...
terminal no, not that far, just wedged between granite, andesite, and ice... no crampons jammed in my thigh? axe points, one above - just in on slanted edge, the other below, leashed and fine...
breathe.now.slow.and.compose; still some hundreds up to go...
seventeen and wounded? a summer morning all alone. next month another run, the middle route also alone.
my favorite mountain, the age-less summit. every self through every era, we've stood upon the top. in storms and starlight, avalanches too..
it's not a record in any books, but goddamn it I love that mountain!
❤️
(( yes, it's comforting in a way to think that I may see that summit once more. unfortunately, the facts be what they may, and even in 2019 on that day I had been fighting the brain tumor for two years. what used to be possible (for nearly all of my living years) then required daily hypodermic/intramuscular anabolic injections and a combination of anti-wasting/cellular-protectant medications that are impossible to further endure)).
I still love seeing the summit from afar.
