Agi: Epstein: dai file spunta una foto con Andrea e Mandelson
AGI - In una fotografia appaiono assieme, per la prima volta, l'ex principe Andrea, l'ex ambasciatore britannico Lord Peter Mandelson, e Jeffrey Epstein, il finanziere pedofilo morto in carcere a New York nel 2019. In un'altra, l'ex ambasciatore sorride parlando, in accappatoio, con Epstein. Secondo quanto riporta Itv News, le immagini sarebbero state scattate intorno al '99-2000, prima della condanna di Epstein per pedofilia, avvenuta in Florida nel 2008.

La foto mostra Andrea e Mandelson indossare accappatoi mentre sono seduti accanto a Epstein attorno un tavolo di legno su un terrazzo all'aperto. I tre sono ritratti mentre bevono da tazze con, sopra, la bandiera degli Stati Uniti. Secondo i media, la foto sarebbe stata scattata a Martha's Vineyard, l'isola davanti al Massachusetts, e fa parte dei file del caso Epstein rilasciati a fine gennaio. L'immagine ha richiamato quella inclusa nel cosiddetto "birthday book", il libro di auguri per i cinquant'anni di Epstein, in cui Mandelson appariva in accappatoio.
L'ex ambasciatore aveva definito il finanziere il suo "migliore amico". Nel 2009, dopo che Epstein era stato già condannato, Mandelson aveva continuato a frequentarlo e ad andare a casa sua a New York. La nuova immagine è destinata ad alimentare l'attenzione attorno a uno scandalo passato in secondo piano dopo l'attacco lanciato da Stati Uniti e Israele all'Iran.
Ma dopo il rilascio della prima parte dei documenti, in cui la vicinanza tra Mandelson e Epstein era apparsa chiara, l'ex ambasciatore è stato arrestato il 23 febbraio e poi rilasciato su cauzione. "Ho sbagliato a fidarmi di lui dopo la condanna e a continuare a frequentarlo. Chiedo scusa alle donne e alle ragazze che hanno subito sofferenza per questo", aveva dichiarato l'ex ambasciatore.

The photo shows Andrew and Mandelson wearing bathrobes while sitting next to Epstein around a wooden table on an outdoor terrace. The three are pictured drinking from cups with, on top, the American flag. According to the media, the photo was taken on Martha’s Vineyard, the island off Massachusetts, and is part of the Epstein case files released at the end of January. The image recalled that included in the so-called "birthday book," Epstein’s book of wishes for his 50th birthday, in which Mandelson appeared in a bathrobe.
The former ambassador had called the financier his “best friend.” In 2009, after Epstein had already been convicted, Mandelson continued to visit him and go to his home in New York. The new image is intended to fuel attention around a scandal that has faded into the background after the attack launched by the United States and Israel on Iran.
But after the release of the first part of the documents, in which the closeness between Mandelson and Epstein was clear, the former ambassador was arrested on February 23 and then released on bail. “I was wrong to trust him after the conviction and to continue visiting him. I apologize to the women and girls who suffered because of this,” the former ambassador said.
