Meanwhile, Israeli reports suggest the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government is near collapse. Understandings reached in Washington have broken down, and Israeli officials are now demanding that the US pressure the Lebanese army to act against Hezbollah outside Israel's self-declared "security zone."

The ongoing ceasefire has given Israel freedom to continue systematically demolishing southern Lebanon and act against alleged "threats." These operations are not limited to southern Lebanon and have killed at least 50 Lebanese during the so-called ceasefire.

Israël heeft weer een journalist gedood. Amal Khalil, een 42-jarige journalist uit Libanon, is woensdag om het leven gekomen door een Israëlisch bombardement.

Voor haar werkgever al-Akhbar, een Libanese krant, was Khalil samen met fotograaf Zeinab Faraj verslag aan het doen van oorlogsontwikkelingen in het zuiden van Libanon. Toen zij samen onderweg waren naar het dorpje al-Tayri, werd de auto voor hen geraakt door een Israëlische raketaanval. Daarbij kwamen twee mannen om het leven. Om te schuilen renden Khalil en Faraj naar een gebouw in de buurt. Vervolgens werd ook dat gebouw geraakt door een raket, melden de Libanese autoriteiten.

Reddingswerkers van het Libanese Rode Kruis wisten Faraj te redden. Zij is gewond, onder meer aan haar hoofd. Maar toen de hulpdiensten Khalil onder het puin probeerden te halen, werden zij zelf bestookt met een Israëlische flitsgranaat en kogels, zeggen de Libanese autoriteiten."
