Public Service Announcement: If you ever need to add a very obscure #language to a piece of software and you can't find an #ISO 639 code for it, remember that ISO 639-2 defines a special range for that.

All codes between "qaa" and "qtz" (inclusive) are free to be used for anything.

So just use one of those instead of hacking some ugly special case in your #software or adding some non-standard code.

"Certains codes ISO 639-3 sont devenus obsolètes au fil du temps, parce qu'il a été reconnu que la #langue associée n'existe en fait pas (code retiré), qu'elle est en fait la même qu'une autre (code doublon), qu'elle est trop similaire à une autre pour avoir son propre code (code fusionné) ou qu'elle regroupe en fait plusieurs langues individuelles distinctes (code séparé). Le code fri a quant à lui été modifié en fry pour s'aligner avec la norme ISO 639-2."

Just discovered #alsatian is identified under 'gsw' / German Switzerland in #iso639.
While not being an expert, it sounds strange to me, but interesting!
So, it means local speakers from #Strasbourg will be asked to #translate like Swiss Germans. This sounds funny.
