It was good to meet with Owen Reidy, General Secretary of ICTU this week in Leinster House alongside my colleagues Roderic and Malcolm.
I’m proud to have worked with ICTU for the past number of years, particularly in combatting narratives of the far right. I support their call for a right to collective bargaining.
It’s important to work with unions to help them deliver good jobs and a sustainable economy for the future.
In Ireland, the Annals of Ulster record the beginning of hostilities in 795 with the attack on the monastery of Rechru and the settlements of Inishmurray, Inisbofin, and Lambay. Military pressure steadily increased: in 798, the monastery of Holmpatrick, in Dublin Bay, was struck, and from 820 onward, Irish chronicles describe a climate of endemic violence perpetrated by the "men of the north".
