Das Problem bei vielen alten (MSDOS) multiplayerfähigen Spielen liegt darin, dass sie das TCP/IP-Protokoll nicht beherrschen und somit nicht direkt über ein LAN oder das Internet miteinander kommunizieren können. Sie sind für Multiplayerpartien entweder auf das IPX-Protokoll angewiesen oder unterstützen nur serielle Modem- oder Nullmodem Verbindungen.

I had performance problems in #Doom over #IPX, that turned out to be because one of my nics was running at 10 half duplex.

So I replaced it with a PCI nic. But it wasn't getting an IRQ at all. So I had to move it to a different slot which was directly next to the AGP. So now there's capton tape on the back of the NIC so it doesn't short out against the VGA heatsink.

Aren't #retrocomputers just the best? 😄

I think i just made the first timid steps on understanding some core concepts behind #ipv6 that i always struggled to understand.
I just started to think about it like a more sane version of #IPX than a totally insane version of #ipv4 and suddenly things start to make sense...

Of course that doesn't help anyone who never used IPX, but it is a great help for me. To be honest I am still scared of IPV6 because #NAT feels like a security feature if all your FW-Rules look at ip headers anyway.

Gestern war es soweit, es wurde das alte DOS-Spiel "Master of Orion 2" gespielt jedoch nicht wie zuerst angedacht in englisch sondern in der deutschen Version (na ja eher einer denglischen Version 🤣).

Gespielt wurde es via DOSBox über IPX-Netzwerk im Multiplayer.
