My neighbor came through, and now I have my very own Zip drive!

Can't wait to start saving up to 100MB of data at a time. This feels like the future.

FireZip 250: The Zip Drive Iomega Wouldn’t Make

Now, I’m not exactly what you would call a retro hardware enthusiast, but even I knew Iomega never made a FireWire ZIP drive.

Дорого, красиво, прогрессивно — история краха Iomega Zip

Maybe @ActionRetro dares to build the #iomega #TowerOfPower and see how many drives he can daisy-chain on parallel port... ^

Also besides #Zip & #Jaz, #iomega also had a QIC #TapeDrive called #ditto which also had the same case design like the former, but in a bordeaux-coloured plastic case in the external, parallel port version...

I have one laying around, somewhere...

The #iomega #jaz format truly has the best failure mode of any storage medium: it appears that even on a pretty messed up disk WRITES pretty much always succeed (at least, according to the drive)

READS however, are a different story...

@glitzersachen @Yuki propblem is that AFAIK all #LTO drive mechanisms are made exclusively by #IBM and at a pretty premium.

  • Compared to the masses of consumer ODDs, #TapeDrives have been on a steady decline since the proprietary destandardization of #QIC #TapeDrives & -media in the early 90s.

I acquired an #iomega #ditto 800 about two decades ago...
