FilmBook

I just watched the most bizarre film I've seen in a very long time.

Described on #IMDB as "#DonnieDarko meets #TwinPeaks", #KnivesAndSkin is as difficult to describe as it is to understand, and that summary is as good as any.

It's an #IFCMidnight movie on #Hulu and, though it's more confusing than #Tenet, I really liked it, probably because it's so boldly beyond all expectations yet still tells stories that are understandable.

Plus, great 80's a cappella songs throughout; so it's a musical?

Christopher Smith's sophisticated CONSECRATION (2023), starring Jena Malone, sends a secular ophthalmologist into a mirror world of convents and covert identity, where Christianity sees itself in the eye of the Devil. In US cinemas from today via #IFCMidnight and #Shudder.

Consecration (2023) - Projected Figures

Christopher Smith’s clerical allegory CONSECRATION pits Christianity against the secular and the pagan, showing sympathy for the devil

Projected Figures

I would compare watching A Banquet to seeing a live performance of Agnes of God. Though a young adult's eating disorder is not as unusual as the manifestation of the stigmata, the spiritual lens of the sufferer's mental state and the overall presentation of the impact in other family members make this a compelling watch. Ranks as top-notch writing, filming, drama performances.

"The Innocents" (2022) Review: A Story-Driven and Tensely Foreboding Norwegian Thriller

The Innocents brings maturity to the superhero genre. While superhero films often toy with being darker, The Innocents prioritizes a solid story structure over special effects and a slow build up that leads to a payoff that is as intriguing as it is polarizing.

Sputnik is a visually remarkable sci-fi horror film that leaves you with a lot of questions and even ends on a sour note.

Relic Review: A Genetically Rotten and Disquieting Masterwork https://bit.ly/DNArot The horror film Relic had a drive-in theatrical run starting July 3. It expanded to other select theaters and was released on digital/VOD services on July 10. Relic Review: A Genetically Rotten and Disquieting Masterwork - Bounding Into Comics

Relic peels away the idea of who we were and replaces it with this soiled, withered, and pathetic version of our former self.
