The government has rolled back a key part of its plans to introduce a digital identity scheme by the end of this parliament.
People will no longer be required to sign up to the digital ID scheme in order to seek work in the UK.

Very pleased to see that the government has listened to reason and scrapped their crazy scheme for mandatory ID cards. This is a welcome development.
Maybe the strong opposition to it had an effect after all. Just goes to show that it's worth speaking up, signing petitions, writing to MPs, and all that kind of thing.

They have raised concerns about the Government's One Login technology which is already used by 13 million people, and say a major flaw was discovered during a security exercise.
