Der mehrstündige großflächige Ausfall vieler .de Domains in den letzten Stunden führt leider vor Augen, dass es eine verwundbare Stelle dezentraler Netzwerke wie dem #Fediverse gibt, die leider selbst von großen Verfechter*innen der Dezentralisierung oft übersehen wird: #DNS. Ein eigener Server oder eine eigene Instanz nützt wenig, wenn die Auflösung der aufgeschalteten Domain durch eine zentralisierte Organisation wie die #ICANN oder in diesem Fall die #Denic passiert.

Es braucht deutlich mehr Anstrengungen hin zur Nutzung von dezentralen Domains und alternativen DNS Providern. Die meisten mir bekannten Projekte vegetieren aber leider schon länger vor sich hin oder sind schon wieder offline.

I have considered publishing an FEP about #GloballyInclusiveHandles . At FediForum six months ago I got the advice to write three:
1. Advocating for #GloballyInclusive handles and laying out requirements and issues
2. Explaining prior art from #Unicode technical annexes on domain names and identifiers, #ICANN label generation rules for DNS, #UniversalAcceptance, email addresses, etc.
3. Advocating for linkification of globally inclusive handles and layout out requirements and issues.
Do those sound like good FEPs to write at this point?

Apparently Lidl owns the `.lidl` TLD, and this (in part) gets their emails flagged as spam by my server.

These brand TLDs were a REALLY DUMB idea by ICANN. Why do we need TLDs per company? And do people actually trust them?

And then there's apparently another round coming 😐

Oh, goody. #ICANN has announced it's opening up applications for new generic top-level domains.

All the ones added since they first started doing this - i.e. when the only generic TLDs were .com, .net, and .org - are, as far as I can see, garbage and useless.

Every single email I have ever received from a domain under .biz, .online, .shop, and all the other "new" GTLDs has been either spam, scam, or phishing.

I should just block all these TLDs completely, and any other new ones this results in.
