"When the Saints Go Marching In", often referred to as simply "The Saints", is a traditional #AfricanAmericanSpiritual. It originated as a Christian #hymn, but is often played by #jazz bands. One of the most famous jazz recordings of "The Saints" was made on May 13, 1938, by #LouisArmstrong and his orchestra. The song is sometimes confused with a similarly titled 1896 composition: "When the Saints Are Marching In", by #KatharinePurvis (lyrics).

Traditional lyrics - Fix Me Jesus.
Oh, fix me; Oh, fix me;
Oh, fix me. Fix me, Jesus, fix me.
1 Fix me for my long, white robe;
Fix me, Jesus, fix me.
Fix me for my starry crown;
Fix me, Jesus, fix me. [Refrain]
2 Fix me for my journey home;
Fix me, Jesus, fix me.
Fix me for my dying bed;
Fix me, Jesus, fix me. [Refrain]

"Just a Closer Walk with Thee" is a traditional #gospel song and #jazzStandard that has been performed and recorded by many artists. Performed as either an instrumental or vocal, "A Closer Walk" is perhaps the most frequently played number in the #hymn and #dirge section of #traditionalNewOrleansJazz funerals. The title and lyrics of the song allude to the Biblical passage from #2Corinthians 5:7 which states, "We walk by faith, not by sight" and #James 4:8.

The Amazing History of “Amazing Grace”

"Rathey points out that the hymn’s famous opening phrase, which focuses on salvation, may have been inspired by the influential seventeenth-century theologian John Bunyan (1628-1688)."

"What a Friend We Have in Jesus" is a #Christian #hymn originally written by preacher #JosephMScriven as a poem in 1855 to comfort his mother, who was living in Ireland while he was in Canada. Scriven originally published the poem anonymously, and only received full credit for it in the 1880s. The tune to the hymn was composed by #CharlesCrozatConverse in 1868. The hymn also has many versions with different lyrics in multiple languages.
