Just now bursting out in bloom, dependable old #ClimbingRose #RoyalSunset, a #HybridTeaRose developed by Dr Dennison Morey in 1960. Fragrant, apricot colored, carefree, but very hard to find. This rose plant is about 35 years old.

Peace #HybridTeaRose was bred by Francis Meilland in France in 1935. He sent plants to growers in Germany, Italy, Turkey, and the US right before Germany invaded France in 1939. US grower Conard Pyle ultimately gave the trade name "Peace" to this rose on 29 April 1945, the day Berlin fell in WWII. Over 100 million "Peace" roses have been sold. This one is in our garden. ❤️ #FlowerAdventCalendar

The best white #HybridTeaRose, highly fragrant, prolific re-bloomer, photograph from June 5, 2023. It was introduced in 2008 by Jackson & Perkins, hybrid by Keith Zary, & named #PopeJohnPaulII.

This really old climbing #HybridTeaRose named "Royal Sunset", hybridized by Dr. Dennison Morey, 1960 - came with this old house. Fragrant, luscious color, tolerated years of neglect, photo from 2022. I'm not finding it commercially available.

#ThrowbackThursday
Did you know that every Wednesday is #RoseWednesday? At least fifty-two times a year (but usually more often than that) I get to post something about #Roses. One of the most exciting things for rosarians is a new CANE BREAK. This new cane is on a #Legends #HybridTeaRose, hybrid by Tom Carruth, introduced in 2009 by Weeks Roses. It may be garden lore, but I always spread alfalfa meal or pellets around each plant after winter pruning to encourage cane break. #GardeningMastodon
