Picking this up after its return from a long hiatus on Viki.

I wasn't sure about Partner's story recall. He seemed not too interested because of the romance at the time. Viki said we were on 17, and I went a couple eps back at first, just in case.

Partner: (on episode 15) oh yeah. The King and the Not King go visit the evil dude who captures their girlfriend, right? Yeah, we saw this one.

(Skip forward to episode 16) oh yeah, they're "brother" and "sister" and the King just figured that out. Because they were so not obvious about the lack of family ties there. Yeah, we saw this too.

Me: I guess you pay more attention to the romance than I thought...

Partner: what? No. I watch it for the fight scenes.

Watching #TheLegendOfZangHai with partner, and trying to place it timewise, and also explain to him where it would fit in with #kdramas he has watched.

The reference to Dongxia places this, if Wikipedia is correct, in the early part of the 13th century.

I am struggling with where some of the Korean period pieces we have watched fit here. #Hwarang was way earlier, 6th or 7th century IIRC. Anything Joseon is way later. We have seen a couple movies with King Sejong, and that times them later as well.

Quite frankly impressed we can have this conversation and pull up references like this. My Chinese history is very lacking, and we have seen a few #cdramas but not sure where they have fit into history. Judge Dee was 11th or 12th century I think? So close-ish. Most of the others have been fantasy.

Maybe this winter we will fill in some timeline gaps now that I have identified them, and get some broader historical sense of when things happened.
