In August 2024 I went for a short hut trekking tour planned a week in advance. Together with some friends I travelled to Kufstein by train where we took the bus to a small village called Ebbs. After waiting for roughly two hours in a café (thunder and heavy rain upon arrival) we started around half past three in the afternoon towards the Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte.

Final day of the Lechquellenrunde and we jumped at the chance for another summit ascent. From Biberacher Hütte we hiked up to the Hochkünzelspitze before descending down into the valley and ending another multi-day hut trekking tour.

Day 5 of the Lechquellenrunde and actually the first time we could hike our way as planned.
The weather was kinda bad so we had a longer stopover at Obere Alpeschellen to escape the upcoming thunderstorm.
That was a nice possibility to become acquainted with some fellow hikers on the same route.

After a good nights sleep at Freiburger Hütte we were ready to start day 4 of the Lechquellenrunde and - how could it be any different? - we've been advised to take the safer route again. So instead of going past Schönbühel and Östlicher Johanneskopf as planned we went back "the boring way" into Lech valley, stopped for a snack at Gasthaus Älpele before ascending towards the Göppinger Hütte. In the end we got really wet but had a decent timing as we reached the hut right about it started to thunder.

On day 3 we've been cautious again and did not took the route via Gehrengrat towards the next hut. Instead we got past the Spullersee, descended back into the Lech valley and hiked along the Lech (this segment was part of another long-distance hiking trail - the Lechweg) until we reached the Formarinsee.
Upon arriving at the lake, we settled for the white-blue-white marked route on the eastern side towards the Freiburger Hütte. I got lucky here as about halfway along the lake a maybe fist-sized stone came crashing down from above a few metres behind me.

Let's continue where we stopped last week: still at the Stuttgarter Hütte, still day 2 of the Lechquellenrunde.
We listened to the inn keeper and split our tour in half as snow prevented us from taking the "normal" way through the Madlochjoch: First down to Zürs on the same route as yesterday and then we took the bus to Zug via Lech.
From there on it was all up again until we reached the Ravensburger Hütte at the Spullersee. The sun was strong during the second part and I sweated a lot.

Because we had to reroute again on the second day on our take on the Lechquellenrunde in June 2024, we started the day with an unplanned summit ascent.

From Stuttgarter Hütte it took us roughly an hour to reach the Fanggekarspitze (2640 m). Gladly the snow-covered path was already groomed.
While the weather on the hut was lovely, it got really cold, windy, grey and misty the higher we got. Sight distance was probly between 10 to 15 meters at the peak.

The hike towards the next hut (still day 2!) will be featured in another post next Thursday.

At the end of June 2024 we started a 6-day hut trekking tour, the Lechquellenrunde. Reservation problems at two huts forced us to change our original plan and follow the trail in reverse. After staying in Sankt Anton am Arlberg the days before, we reached our starting point, Lech-Zürs, by bus. From there it was a rather short hike up to the first hut, the Stuttgarter Hütte, which is situated at 2310 m right on the Tyrol side of the Tyrol-Vorarlberg border. Because the weather was really "meh" and we reached the hut at 10 o'clock in the morning, we had lots of time to chat with an employee of the hut, who studied in the same city as us.

First day of our crossing of the Alps on 31 August 2023. After taking the elctric boat to St. Bartholomew's Church at the western shore of the Königssee we faced a steep incline through the Saugasse with 32 hairpin turns until we reached our first alpine hut, the Kärlingerhaus, at 1638 metres above sea level.
