How ‘cherry-picking’ policies let one insurer win big in Florida’s insurance crisis

While Florida’s insurance system has been working for some top executives, it has been crippling for many residents and disaster victims.

The Washington Post

I can't help thinking about oligarchs.

They earn so much more than us. They pay less tax. In fact they pay nowhere near their share.

Yet when there's a disaster like floods, mudslides, earthquakes, cyclones they leave the bill for the clean-up with the Govt. Except Govt coffers only contain taxes from our money. Us poor sods who DO pay our way, DO pay our share. And the oligarchs (#Zuckerberg #Musk #Bezos) don't.

And it's all legal of course bc they pay accountants to find loopholes to avoid paying into the treasuries around the world. The Treasuries that pay to clean up the mud, rubble, bush fires, devastated land and shitty water.

The oligarchs sit on the sidelines knowing that floods, earthquakes, hurricanes will *never* affect them bc they can fly out to somewhere safe, to another of their 20 homes. They come and go wherever they please. While we wait for relief, food, water, shelter in a school hall. Wait for diggers to clear the mess. Wait for some semblance of a life to emerge.

And all the while the oligarchs have SO MUCH, share so little of the trillions they have held back from us in unpaid share of taxes.

And they run their businesses with such disdain and disrespect for us, their employees and customers.

I was just thinking about that today.

As FEMA aid window closes, funding complication remains

The process of fully recovering is still far from over.
