City of Huntington Beach:
HB will experience King Tides over the next several days. These exceptionally high tides can cause coastal flooding, especially along nearby streets, walkways, and low-lying areas.
Marine Safety is asking the community to use caution:
• If you go in the water, swim near a lifeguard tower.
• Keep your distance from the shoreline and avoid flooded areas.
• Monitor local weather updates for changing conditions.
King Tide & surf outlook:
• Fri 1/2: Surf 2–3 ft. High tide 7.0 ft at 7:30 AM, dropping to a -1.8 ft low at 2:56 PM.
• Sat 1/3: Surf 2–3 ft. High tide 7.0 ft at 8:18 AM, falling to a -1.8 ft low at 3:40 PM.
• Sun 1/4: Surf builds W–NW 4–6 ft. High tide 6.8 ft at 9:05 AM, dropping to a -1.6 ft low at 4:22 PM.
• Mon 1/5: Surf eases 3–4 ft. High tide 6.4 ft at 9:51AM, dropping to a -1.2 ft low at 5:02 PM.
• Tue 1/6: Surf drops 2–3 ft. High tide 5.7 ft at 10:37 AM, falling to a -0.6 ft low at 5:41 PM.
Overall: The highest tides occur on Friday (1/2)and Saturday (1/3) in the 7.0 ft range, with 2–3 ft surf. Surf increases on Sunday to the 4-6 foot range, and the high tide is 6.8. As we move into Monday and Tuesday, the extreme tides moderate into the 6.3 ft and 5.7 ft range.
If you would like to pick up sandbags, the City offers free self-serve sandbag fill stations at the following locations (bring your own shovel & don’t overload your vehicle):
• Edison Community Center – 21377 Magnolia St. (Available 24/7)
• Warner Fire Station – 3831 Warner Ave.(Available 24/7)
• Corporate Yard – 17371 Gothard St. (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.). Note: This location is closed today (1/1).
The HBFD Marine Safety Division has additional lifeguard staff on duty to monitor conditions and respond as needed. The HB Public Works crew is on standby to assist with flooding or coastal impacts.
