finally back to editing the video, and I've now found that FFV1 mostly does not have hardware accelerated encode/decode on Linux yet (ffmpeg shipped major improvements last summer, but ffmpeg is not VLC or Kdenlive)

that's too bad, because it's a lot more space-efficient than HuffYUV, but if my (fairly ancient) laptop chokes on 1080p30 playback due to using the CPU exclusively, I can't use it.

Because of #blender's up coming 2.8 release I've started going down the rabbithole of video codecs again after noticing timeline performance increased when using DNxHD. I know using intermediary and intraframe codecs could help with timeline performance but you see it exacerbated in blender due two how the VSE works.

I'm thinking of testing out and comparing #huffyuv, #utvideo, and #FFv1 in via obs recording to see how they compare.
