The only reason the Speaker of the House of Commons would voice an opinion on Labour's proposal to abolish the House of Lords is the prospect of a cushy peerage for himself.

Also, nobody is elected to the House of Lords. A sceptical person might think it was a convenient way to try to shut down someone speaking out against inhumane government policies towards refugees 🤷♀️
