I'm writing a parody sequel to House of Leaves about being trapped in an endless IKEA.
I'm calling it Couch of Twigs.
Commonalities between Neverending Story and House of Leaves:
- Multiple layers of reality
- Center around books with mysterious origins received from an old man
- Reading the book changes whoever reads it
- A boy protagonist abandoned by his mother
- The Nothing, a void personified by a stalking monster, representing a flaw of the mind
- Deal with trauma via an impossible world
- The impossible world changes based on the mentality of the protagonist
- Subtle fourth wall breaks
- Soundtracks
House of Leaves is just Neverending Story for adult trauma.
Navidson: Why won't you publish my documentary??
Film Producer: Well, first there's the pacing issue.
Navidson: YES!!! That's what I've been trying to explain! The house measures a half pace bigger on the inside!!

Ohhhhhhh. Sagan Hawkes just dropped a three and a half mile essay about The House Of Leaves..........
(If you haven't read the book, go do that first, and since he's gonna tie this in with MyHouse.wad, then play that or watch a playthrough, and only then watch the essay.)
(Seriously. House of Leaves is not a read so much as an experience. It's the book I feel the most about every time I'm reminded it exists.)

I'm reading House Of Leaves for a second time and I think I might go to the library tomorrow to read. Because there's only two ways to read this book:
Like the editor, in a library, studiously
Like Zampanò, shutters closed, in the near dark, and a little bit of paranoia
(You could also read it like Johnny, but that's the same as Zampanò but horny.)
