Mm, I'm not sure about that. A #hornet got stuck in Mrs Wife's hair and decided to sting its way out. She said it was the worst pain she'd ever experienced.

This insect is resting on my chivers. At first, I thought it had lost its wings, but they are there, at th lower sides of the insect. The insect is rather large, a bit more than 2 cm, I'd say.
Google image search thinks it's a vespula germanica or vespula vulgaris, but AFAIK these waps are smaller than 2cm. Can it be a European hornet (Vespa crabro)?
