I often debate about #DIY or buy with larger projects. Right now I'm debating taking on putting in a new heat pump by myself or hiring it done.

After installing a mini split by mysel, I feel like a heat pump isn't much different. But I would also have to spend a significant amount of time in my dirty / cramped attic space putting together a new ducted air handler.

Will wait for the quote to decide.

I'm hearing the sound of freezing rain against the windows.

Once again very glad we got those enormous old trees removed and the roof work done. We have fewer concerns about losing power because a tree tore the power line off the house, and water flows as it should through the gutters.

Just gave up and bought a cheap Morten softener. We'll see how long it takes for a breakdown, but if it lasts two years it paid for itself in repair costs.
