A: Oh, dug through menus in a new AV receiver to find its MAC addresses, configured my network DHCP server to give it a static address, and then wrote some iptables rules to keep that address from being able to reach outside the LAN. Pretty standard stuff.

Looking for a "DO NOT CONNECT THIS MACHINE TO THE INTERNET NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT NAGS" warning sign to print out.

The only thing I can't get quite right with the new 4K Blu-ray player:

It has two HDMI out, one for video to the TV and one for audio to the AV receiver.

The TV also sends audio to the receiver via eARC, needed for all the smart TV apps.

If I start the Blu-ray player, it starts with the audio input to the receiver saying it is from the TV. And it works, which it shouldn't, because the audio should only be coming out the other output of the blu-ray.

Does any of you have any experience with the #Epson EB-675W, a short-throw projector? I see that it's sold as a classroom device, but how about #movie watching? I use a laptop and most things I watch come from online sources (720/1080 Blu-ray max). I'm not interested in 3D 4K extravaganzas.

My room is small and I'd sit 2—3 meters from the screen.

This is the end of an HDMI cable with the shield ripped off. It happened while I was adjusting a new install for our older TV. Push this here, pull that there and poof, the cable was no longer connected to the TV and was swinging from the wall.

The shield (second photo) was left in the TV. Whoever designed the mount structure for the HDMI connector in the TV did a good job; the connector in the TV still works.

The cable's toast, but I have another, and a lesson learned.
