Anyone tried homemade network camera systems? I have high expectations for privacy, and a high tolerance for complex setups, which seems to leave me with either shelling out a couple grand for a UniFi ecosystem, or building my own cameras and my own NVR system.

For DIY, due to scale, I suspect that after figuring out weatherproofing, mounting, sufficient quality, availability... That the returns might diminish and start making UniFi look like a really good option.
