🎥 Oh, look! Another brave soul who buys broken camera lenses because logic is overrated and savings mean nothing! 🤦‍♂️ Let's all admire the heroic journey of someone who dives into the complexities of lens repair only to save a few bucks, all while convincing themselves this is a 'hobby.' 🙄🔧

Sigma 45mm f/2.8 Lens Repair & Analysis | Salvaged Circuitry

I stumbled across a broken Sigma 45mm f/2.8 Art lens for a very cool $58.65 USD that I simply could not resist. I've been eyeing an AF lens in the 50mm range for my recent endeavors with L-mount cameras and this looked like the perfect fit. This lens is commonly found as a kit with the very excellent full-frame Sigma FP camera series. Here is my comprehensive guide to bringing the lens back into service. I delve into the nitty-gritty details of lens PCB repair and lens disassembly techniques.

@chockenberry @Cdespinosa I write this while looking at my Apple IIe, my IIgs, my monochrome green CRT that I used to watch VHS on when I was too poor to afford a second screen. (Ted Turner never even attempted to colorize The Terminator into its original green and black.)

#TechHoarder or #Hobbyist ?

Hello you! This is Jean (clearly Im not the raptor). I just moved my photo gallery from pixelfed to vernissage. I haven't moved everything yet except followers as I am only trialling this one as its more flicker-vibes than Instagram.

Wow, a #hobbyist spent 3 months #tracking #petrol #prices like it’s the new Pokémon Go, but with #spreadsheets instead of Pikachu. 📊🔍 Meanwhile, the rest of us were busy doing literally anything else. ⛽️🤷‍♂️

Ein Hoch auf den Feierabend. Hobby machen, Hobby rauchen. Opportunities for social connection and skill development. Leidenschaft trifft Besessenheit.

Ah yes, another riveting tale of microcontrollers—because who doesn't love a deep dive into floating point #arithmetic on a #hobbyist chip? 🙄 Spoiler: if you enjoy endless links leading to nowhere and cryptic jargon, this post is your Disneyland. 🎢 Go ahead, embrace the thrill of being hopelessly confused! 🤓

Floating Point Fun on Cortex-M Processors

In my recent post on the PSA Crypto API, I demonstrated the use of the API on two different MCUs: the nRF52840 and the ESP32-S3. In the case of the former, the ECDSA signature operation was eventually executed in a closed source library that manages communication between the Arm Cortex-M4 processor and the Arm TrustZone CryptoCell 310 security subsytem. Readers that ventured down the rabbit hole of links in the post may have noticed that there are variants of the nrf_cc310_mbedcrypto libraries for hard-float and soft-float.

Radio Shack famously made many different products for hobbyists and professionals alike. Their series of protoboards were specially designed to fit inside project boxes that were also sold by Radio…

Any solar enthusiasts here? I would like to follow some people who do interesting stuff.

I write most of my code assuming that I do not read it for quite a while. If I would live in it everyday, I would probably prefer fewer comments and shorter variable names.
Also: How to run and update the project is what I seem to forget the easiest, so a section in the readme for that seems to be essential.

In early 2023 upcoming Chinese #MCU vendors appeared to cause notable disruption in the #embedded space. Now as the dust settles, we'll reflect on the viability of their market relevance:

These vendors promised more punch for the same price. But was it just a gimmick?

With perceived drawbacks such as: low reliability/yeild, questionable stock longevity, and fears of backdoor access (on a simple MCU??), I believe they do have their place.. But for high volume industries (with access to mainstream vendor's FAE programs) the cost attribute fades away.

They may fit into circumstances when:
- Cost is the #1 driver: Consumer electronics, toys, disposable IoT sensors, LED lighting
- Volume is low-to-mid: where FAE pricing support isn't available, for startups and mid-sized companies.

And ofcourse the #hobbyist who takes up a challenge just for the fun of it!
