After the Absent Museum in #Wiels, and 16th #CuencaBiennale (#Ecuador), the collective work of #UniversalEmbassy - a platform for and by undocumented people based in the former embassy of #Somalia in #Brussels between 2000-2005, is once again being showed, this time at the heart of the 60th #VeniceBiennale, where the #Disobedience archive (a militant video archive) is being cleverly deployed at the Arsenale. Don't miss the video by #HitoSteyerl, who visited us in 2001 and produced this work appropriately titled : Universal Embassy. #MohamedBenzaouia, one of the spokespersons at the time, has aged like the rest of us, but his analysis of #FortressEurope has remained unchanged to this day. His words back then were alerting. With the militarisation of #border surveillance, the situation has worsened beyond imagination.

#HitoSteyerl ist für mich eh eine der klügsten Künstler*innen, die sich intensiv mit den Bedingungen auseinandersetzen, in & aus denen heraus #Kunst stattfindet. Sie hat ihr Kunstwerk von der #documenta15 wegen deren Nicht-Umgang mit antisemitischen Bildern zurückgezogen. Jetzt ist die nächste #documenta in der Bredouille, bevor es überhaupt ein*e Kurator*in gibt.
