"girls have finally swiped the boys' last private, personal thing"

This is from a magazine for teens in the St. Louis area; apparently, traditional gender roles were melting away. In 1949.

(We all agree "Speed Clayton" won the name lottery, though, right?)

I am glad I went to the Marie Antoinette Style exhibition at the V&A today. A very beautiful and inspiring exhibition . One word to describe the style is unapologetic. And also, aren't these the best shoes in the world?!

I’ve been given the Janet Arnold Award by the Society of Antiquaries to recreate clothing described in the Tudor song, Greensleeves.
Really excited to be working on this project with a team of superb costume historians.
Among other things, there will be a video to come in the future, and a book about Greensleeves & early modern clothing in music and song, but in the meantime, here is our recording of the words and music…

That #thread🧵 reads like what people would have seen on #FoxNews in the #1920s. 😄

That's a great #thread🧵 on #flappers!

It's also a great reminder how women dressed was often blamed for the actions of men, how older generations have always fought against change, and how many small battles we have always been fighting for #feminism.

This verse of the #17thCentury #Ballad 'Christmas Lamentation' condemns the use of starch (yellow or otherwise) for setting #ruffs and other linens – using a foodstuff for decorating clothes has pushed up the price of corn (wheat) , causing a #costofliving crisis.
