The USA has a tradition of so-called “high lonesome” songs. Very charismatic, mostly very simple songs from the Appalachians, but also from elsewhere. As the name suggests, these are not exactly funny songs to dance to. They are mostly imbued with this peculiar pagan-satanic Christianity that is cultivated in the South.
