This is what a progressive does: tackles the long-standing problems that benefit the few at the expense of the many #HighCostOfFreeParking

Free street car parking is the political third rail in Boston and until we deal directly with the #HighCostOfFreeParking we can't remake our city in an equitable way to benefit humans Parking improvement districts would be a great first step to invest in public spaces in our communities

Boston would do well to create Parking Improvement Districts, keep this valuable resource in use and pre-empt day long squatters, and funnel revenue into neighborhood benefits and beatification. And show your work! @wutrain.bsky.social @jfh01.bsky.social #HighCostOfFreeParking

In Boston the only unalienable right is free car storage. We love free parking more than we love life itself. We can't daylight intersections or create protected bike lanes because car parking is sacred to Boomers #HighCostOfFreeParking @wutrain.bsky.social @jfh01.bsky.social

@TheWarOnCars
reminded of a saying that putting parking in your downtown is like putting a toilet in your living room, attributed to Shoup but also Enrique Peñalosa in Bogota and Jane Jacobs. #DonaldShoup #Shoupista #HighCostOfFreeParking
Last night, I went to the city council and spoke about the #HighCostOfFreeParking including how the city of #Merced plans to surround the #CAHSR station with eight city blocks of parking lots, when those are otherwise highly desirable city blocks. I urged the city council to remove parking minimums and to seek private investment in developing those lots into mixed use developments instead. If I can do it, you can too. Go talk to your city council. It's free and the cops can't stop you.
Got Donald Shoup's "The High Cost of Free Parking" in Libby as an audiobook. A very depressing listen on the #UpperWestSide. We'd so benefit by smart meters but they will never happen because the money would go into a central fund and never benefit the local area. Must be happy with elimination of #ParkingMinimums. Do love the #groupthink analogies with doctors prescribing lead because that's what they all do.
