๐ŸŽถ @TheEddieShow has me listening to Northern Soul today. (He does that to you)

There is a Nashville connection, oddly enough.

Bobbi Lynn, who we know very little about, recorded this song at Nashville's ELF records. It became a part of Northern Soul only because the single was released in the UK on the Stateside label, and fans liked it. Can this Northern Soul have a Nashville accent? You decide.

๐ŸŒ There was evidence of animal populations despite being an urban creek. Mussel shells and snails were abundant.

After about 30 minutes, I found what I was looking for. It was not doing so well. Maybe it had been a victim of people playing in the creek the previous day.

๐Ÿฆž This is the Nashville Crayfish. Notice the long claws with orange tips with a black band. Also the "saddle" coloration on the carapace helps with identification.

๐Ÿ›ถ We have River Keepers, but we need more Stream Keepers, people watching out for the creeks near their homes.

๐Ÿ”ฌ There are citizen science opportunities for young people, and habitats and rare populations to protect.

Check out the little waterways near you.

On my recent trip to Nashville, I planned to visit a unique creature. The creature is unique because it lives in a relatively small habitat that it cannot escape.

It lives in the "Nashville Basin," a geographic bowl. It also lives in creeks and streams, therefore trapping it in the basin.

To find the rare creature, I traveled early on a recent Sunday morning toward the headwaters of Mill Creek, one of the few locations where it can be found. There was an access point at a park.

I put on my water exploring shoes, and stepping in, memories of a childhood spent in creeks like this filled my mind. I slogged carefully upstream beyond the area where there was evidence of a lot of human activity.

Would I find one?

Seen at an intersection of Rep. John Lewis Way in Nashville, TN.

The Woolworth's sign appears in bottom right because John Lewis was a key player in Nashville's successful restaurant desegregation effort in 1960.
