Happy #FootpathFriday from #Biederitz!

The #floodplain here is a very popular spot for walking, and it's also abundant with wildlife. The #bridge in the background is the B1 highway that leads to Magdeburg in a few minutes.

In December 2023 there was another Elbe flood and this floodplain was actually used to keep the water away from Magdeburg, by opening a nearby barrage. The area was under water for a few weeks, but recovered quickly.

#TrainTrackTuesday: Remember the #abandonedRailway track in the woods I showed you a couple of weeks ago? This photo is from the same line in a different part of #Biederitz. This 500m (0.3mi) #railroadBridge across the Elbe floodplain and the Ehle river has become a listed #bridge and even has its own Wikipedia page (in German). It was built in 1846 and large parts of it are still original. It was closed in 1998 and is now barricaded due to deterioration, but the bridge continues to be a prominent landmark in the area. You can spot it in the background of some of my sunset photos. 😉

Nachdem das Pretziener Wehr geöffnet wurde, verwandelte sich der Umflutkanal vor #Heyrothsberge in einen Fluss mit der gleichen Mächtigkeit wie die #Elbe selbst.

Hier gibt es sonst grüne Wiesen zu sehen und ein kleines Rinnsal namens Ehle, das gerne im Sommer auch mal ganz trocken fällt.

Ich mag ja lustige Projektionen. Was rechts aus dem Bild fährt, kommt links wieder rein. 220° Sichtfeld macht's möglich.

Vor ein paar Tagen fuhr ich mit dem Fahrrad für eine kurze Tour von #Magdeburg nach #Heyrothsberge und Biederitz. Dabei kam ich an den Resten der im Jahr 1846 eröffneten und 1998 stillgelegten Flutbrücke über die #Ehle vorbei. 🛤️

Es handelt sich um eine der ältesten, noch erhaltenen Blechträgerbrücken weltweit. Früher verband diese Bahnlinie – mit der ebenfalls noch existierenden Brücke über die alte Elbe und der Hubbrücke – die ostelbischen Gebiete direkt mit dem Industriestandort #Buckau. 🏭
