We're pleased to share the recording of Dr Sharon Healy's talk on web archiving for #HeritageWeek2025 at the Royal Irish Academy.

Dr Healy presented a brief history of the preservation of digital cultural heritage on the web, highlighting the importance of websites as heritage artefacts, why they are at-risk digital content, and what is being done nationally in Ireland to preserve them.

Heritage Week 2025: Preserving Irish online cultural heritage through web archiving

Yesterday at the Royal Irish Academy, Dr Sharon Healy, Archivist and Researcher in Web Archives, and Dr Kathryn Cassidy, DRI Senior Software Engineer, shared the history of web archives (with special mention of the Alternative Miss Ireland website), and showed people how to archive their own websites as well.

We had such an overwhelmingly positive response, we will aim to offer more hands-on help for DRI member organisations to archive websites in 2026.

Tomorrow at 7pm in Roundwood, Wicklow I will give a talk for Heritage Week 'From Furze to Flame: Drawing Stories From Our Uplands'. This will be about fire management practices in the past in Ireland, and how I made art from research about this.
